## What Do You Need to Use the TikTok API?

TikTok has several APIs, and posting runs through one of them: the Content Posting API, with Direct Post for publishing and Upload for sending drafts to a creator's inbox. The Display API reads profile and video data, and the Business API covers ads. Until TikTok audits your app, the Content Posting API keeps every post private and lets only 5 users post through your app in any 24 hours.

- **Access**: A TikTok developer app with the Content Posting API, then an audit that checks your app against TikTok's terms and content sharing guidelines. Apps built only for internal or test use don't pass.
- **Cost**: TikTok publishes no fee for the Content Posting API. The cost is the audit, building to TikTok's posting UX rules, and yearly reauthorization for every user.
- **Account types**: Personal and business accounts. Business accounts are always public, so followers-only posts need a private personal account.
- **Key limits**: About 15 posts per creator per day, shared across every app that creator uses, and 6 posts per minute.

## TikTok API Limits: Post Types, Media, and Characters

TikTok's rules in one place. The full list lives in the [TikTok media guidelines](/docs/media-guidelines/tiktok) and the [TikTok publishing options](/docs/apis/post/social-networks/tiktok).

- **10 min max length (Video)**: MP4, MOV, or WebM, 3 seconds to 10 minutes, 23 to 60 FPS, in 9:16 or 16:9.
- **20 MB per image (Images)**: JPG, JPEG, or WEBP. WebP is converted to JPEG automatically. PNG isn't accepted. 1080 x 1920, 1920 x 1080, or square up to 1080 x 1080.
- **35 photos per carousel (Post types)**: Video posts, photo carousels, and drafts sent to the creator's TikTok inbox. One post can't mix photos and video.
- **2,200 characters (Captions)**: Hashtags and @mentions count. TikTok drops line breaks.
- **1 year between reauthorizations (Accounts)**: Personal and business TikTok accounts. Each user reauthorizes once a year, with a reminder 15 days before.
- **3 content labels (Labels)**: AI-generated, paid partnership, or promotional content. The AI label can't be removed after posting.
- **1 to 2 min to go live (Processing)**: Posts start as pending. A webhook reports the live TikTok URL once processing finishes.
- **15 posts per day per account (Scheduling and rate limits)**: Pass a scheduleDate to publish later. TikTok allows 6 posts per minute; Ayrshare allows 300 API calls per 5 minutes per profile.

- **Post up to 35 photos in one carousel**: Choose the cover image, add a title, and let TikTok add music.
- **Set visibility and content labels**: Control who sees the post, turn off duets and stitches, and apply TikTok's AI-generated, paid partnership, or promotional labels. Or send the post as a draft to the creator's TikTok inbox to finish in the app.
- **Pull TikTok analytics**: Get video views, likes, comments, shares, and audience breakdowns per post, plus follower and engagement totals per account.
- **Read and reply to TikTok comments**: Read comments and replies on a video, reply as the account, and hide comments from public view.

### Can I post videos to TikTok through an API?

Yes. Ayrshare's TikTok API lets developers publish videos and photo carousels to TikTok personal and business accounts via a single REST endpoint. You send a video URL to the /post endpoint, and a webhook tells you when TikTok has published it, usually within 1 to 2 minutes.
### Can I post TikTok photo carousels through the API?

Yes. Send up to 35 JPG or JPEG images in one post, up to 20 MB each. You can choose the cover image and add a title. WebP images are converted for you, but PNG isn't accepted.
### Can you schedule TikTok posts with an API?

Yes. Pass a scheduleDate in ISO 8601 UTC format and Ayrshare publishes the video or photo post at that time. Webhooks report the final status, including the live TikTok URL.
### Which TikTok accounts does the API support?

Both personal and business accounts. Your users link their own account through a hosted OAuth page, and you post for them by sending their Profile-Key. Each user reauthorizes once a year, with a reminder 15 days before.
### How do I handle TikTok API rate limits?

TikTok allows 6 posts per minute and 15 per day for each account through its API, so spread bulk posting with scheduled dates. Ayrshare's own limit is 300 calls per 5 minutes per profile, not shared across your organization. ### Can I get TikTok analytics through an API?

Yes, for each video and for the whole account. TikTok refreshes analytics every 24 to 48 hours and reports account totals over a rolling 60 days. The account owner must turn on analytics in the TikTok app.
