Profile Picture

The business profile picture is set with Update User via profilePictureUrl and returned by WhatsApp Business Profile as profile_picture_url.
  • Supported formats: JPEG and PNG.
  • Max file size: 5 MB.
  • The image must be square.
  • Minimum dimensions: 192 px x 192 px.
  • Maximum dimensions: none — a larger image is accepted and scaled down by WhatsApp, which stores a 640 px maximum edge.
  • Recommended dimensions: 640 px x 640 px.
An image that is not square, is below 192 px x 192 px, is over 5 MB, or is not a JPEG or PNG is rejected with a 400 naming the problem, before anything is sent to WhatsApp.
WhatsApp displays the profile picture cropped to a circle, so keep important content — a logo, a face — centered and out of the corners.
A PNG with a transparent background is rendered by WhatsApp with a black background. Flatten the image onto a solid background before uploading if that is not what you want.
